Clarent Corporation Develops Strong Presence in Europe; Clarent's Latest Strategic Appointments Strengthen Its Position as the VoIP Leader in Europe

BRUSSELS--(BUSINESS WIRE)Clarent(tm) Corporation, the premier provider of carrier-grade, phone-to-phone IP telephony solutions worldwide, has announced plans to strengthen its position in Europe.
Clarent's decision to concentrate on building its local European presence is backed by the recent appointment of Chris Wyles, who came on board last week as Vice President, Clarent Europe and Managing Director of European, Middle East and African Operations. Wyles joined Clarent from a similar position at Glenayre Electronics, Inc, global provider of voice mail and prepaid telecom services. Wyles' initial role at Clarent will be to expand Clarent's local sales and support activities. "Clarent's strategy for Europe will be to expand the company's current sales successes to additional PTTs, traditional and new carriers, and long distance alliance companies. Our goal will be to work closely within the different regions in Europe to deploy technology that our customers will use for consumer and enterprise VPN IP telephony offerings, " commented Wyles.
Wyles is the latest in a series of strategic European appointments made by Clarent this year, which also include Denis Murphy, Area Vice President, United Kingdom and Paul Schillebeekx, Director of European Sales.
Denis Murphy came to Clarent this year after having spent 14 years with British Telecom, where he held positions as Sales Manager for the Voice Mail Division and Global and Multi-National Corporate Sales Manager. Prior to that, he spent 3 years as General Manager of Interactive Media Service's (IMS) Voice Products Division.
Paul Schillebeekx joined Clarent Corporation at the beginning of the year, having spent almost ten years in the telecommunications and IT industry. Schillebeekx previously carried out engineering and marketing roles with Belgacom Mobile, where he was responsible for the introduction of various voice and data products for both consumer and enterprise markets.
