What a big mistake for Microsoft! Its one thing to have windows bundled with a computer - but to force customers to ask themselves every year at renewal time - "what is windows worth? is probably the strongest argument for Linux I have seen as well as the flood of open source software that would arrive if Microsoft decided to do this. Microsoft really overestimates themselves and their value - i would expect most pc manufacturers would offer a choice of OS's if this were to happen so maybe this wouldn't be a bad thing after all.
