Lumpia is a popular food across all of SE Asia. It's called by the same name in Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines etc. It certainly looks like it is derived from the Chinese spring roll, but has different adaptations in terms of skin and filling in each of the SE Asian countries. The term is originally Hokkien (Fujian). "pia" means cake or pastry in Hokkien, not sure what the "lum" means.
