Badger - Re: " Based on you experience, would you be OK with buying a product (like a piece of software) and having the user manual on the CD? "

I have no real problem with this - almost all the software I buy these days uses the same CD-ROM distribution for manuals - saves printing charges, and mailing/shipping charges (Bulk Weight).

CD-ROM manuals have the added advantage that they can be SEARHED electronically for information. This is GREAT providing that the Technical writers properly INDEX the manual - AND THE SUBJECT MATTER.

By SUBJECT MATTER INDEXING, I mean more than just word or phrase indexing - I think you should get my understanding.

One other limitation - most PCs have one CD ROM Drive. I think the industry may need to push for dual CD-ROM readers (or dual CD capacity) so that a manual can be "on-line" while a second CD or music CD can also be playing. Just my opinion !
