Not anymore. You already said before that Andy Grove's decision to increase capacity allowed Microsoft to become the de facto standard in operating systems. But what can Intel do now that Microsoft already has the stranglehold on the x86 OS market? Perhaps Merced, McKinley, and the other IA-64 products can be used to level the playing field, especially if Microsoft isn't on the ball with an IA-64 version of Windows NT. But I don't think Intel will go any further than a mere leveling of the playing field, since a war with Microsoft could spell disaster for the computing market in general.
