HP needs Intel to manufacture their processors.

The first clear cut dependency is HP's new PA-RISC 8500 with 1.5 Megabytes of on-chip L2 cache.

Intel fabricates these chips with excellent yields.

The clock speeds aren't all that impressive - but after all - it's an HP DESIGN !

And that is also why HP needs Intel's design expertise - Intel knows how to design for VERY HIGH SPEED OPERATION.
