I don't know what you mean by: "isn't there only so much you can hedge with fuel prices".

If you mean there is no adequate hedge against other costs rising, that is another issue. But if you are suggesting that buying forward crude against future jet fuel needs is in some way a misguided policy, I'd like to know why. While not exact, the price correlation should be close enough to do the job. Don't underestimate the advantage of taking a major volitile cost element out of the equation and being able to stabilize it and plan for it. Security analysts and investors reward managers who reduce such risks.
