Jerry, I will butt in so WrongWay doesn't foul this up, too. Record date for a split is the day the transfer agent looks to see who owns shares of stock and then mails the new ones out, based on that list. It used to take awhile for those new shares to get to people so the actual effective date was pushed off a bit into the future.

Since so many shares are now held in the street name, record date is sort of meaningless, and the effective date controls when the shares trade according to the new scheme, i.e. times 3 volume, divided by 3 price. So, from a timing standpoint this really has little effect on December options, but really jerks around Nov options.

Don't look to anyone to seriously question the timing of this move. The Fed has already said it is OK to manipulate and take advantage of the markets when it came out with the surprise rate cut after the bond market had closed and 45 minutes to close for equities the Thursday prior to expiration.

So get with the program and rape anyone you want, just don't use a gun 'cause that is no longer kwel. -g-

Regards, Ice
