David,
Assuming your perspective is correct for a moment, and that you are not the one no longer listening to right teaching, you said:
"God has instructed me to stay away from people like you."
Did Jesus really instruct you to do that, or would he have said to bend down and help one who has fallen, as you perceive Sam to have done? It sounds like you are interpreting in such a way as to allow you to pass by the beaten stranger in distaste. If so, you may have simply wrapped your ego in a mantle of righteousness, and forgotten his true messages. The danger in taking authority in Christ, is those who do so based upon incorrect interpretation of his message. Jesus didn't tell you how to divide people into those who are worthy of you, and those you should shun, the one inside of you who would shun someone you perceive as in need of saving is the one Jesus was warning you about.
"But some rejected his message and publicly spoke against the Way, so Paul left the synagogue and took the believers with him. ........" (Acts 19:9 NLT)
Paul was a Gnostic. "The Way" is a name of the Gnostic teachings that are older than the Bible. It is ironic indeed that Sam speaks of Gnosticism (and perhaps more), and you speak against it. Who is rejecting the message of which Paul speaks, and even that of your own Jesus? Perhaps David has not slain Goliath after all, for he does not recognize that David is Goliath. Goliath is the one you should be directing your message to, and whom the passages describe.
Peace, Darrin
