Andrew, not really replying but a new thought: I posted the following on the AOL thread and thought it would be of interest here too-
<<I just tried something real cool (pardon the dated vernacular but I AM dated. I signed up with an ISP (FNET from Franklin Telecom [FTEL on the $5 and under topic] and accessed this board as I often do. I then accessed AOL through their tcp/ip connection through a second socket via my ISP. I <alt + Tabbed> back here and am writing this reply while I'm simultaneously downloading a file from AOL (chamsamp). My point is not how wonderful I am but the beauty of AOL access via the $9.95 tcp/ip route. I'm paying $15 per month on a six month subcription to the FNET service and can access AOL for under $10. I have bypassed the busy signals and using multiple sockets I am getting dual use out of one phone line and modem. Naturally if I was surfing instead of writing this note the double duty on the modem would slow everything down. But even then the download would utilize much of the dead air on the modem.
I have seen the future and it just might work. I own stock in both AOL and FTEL (parent co. of FNET) and do not wish to mislead anyone by not stating so.
Good luck to the long and the short of it. Sam >>
