What position? Sun shot themselves in the foot. Very foolish strategic move- see my earlier posts which of course were misread and misunderstood by the anti MSFT cabal. Plenty of other Java like tech out there just waitng for the MSFT impramatur.

It appears that the government of Japan finds very little at fault with MSFT:

The Japanese government has ended a year-long investigation of MICROSOFT CORP's alleged
anti-competitive practices and concluded there is little reason to take action against the software giant,
company executives said late Thursday. The Japan Fair Trade Commission issued a warning with
regard to some Microsoft Internet contracts, which the company says are no longer in effect, and issued
a recommendation about the way it licenses the Excel spreadsheet program to Japanese computer
makers, which executives said they would accept. But the agency declined to pursue charges that
Microsoft was impeding rival NETSCAPE COMMUNICATIONS from competing in the Internet
browser market, Microsoft said.
