Miami Computer to Buy Dreher to Expand Distribution
Dayton, Ohio, Nov. 20 (Bloomberg) -- Miami Computer Supply Corp., which sells computer supplies and accessories, said it agreed to buy competitor Dreher Business Products Corp. to increase its sales in western Pennsylvania and Ohio.
Dayton, Ohio-based Miami Computer earlier this week agreed to buy Axidata, one of the largest computer-supply distributors in Canada, from Abitibi-Consolidated Inc., the world's largest newsprint maker, for undisclosed terms. Terms for the Dreher acquisition also weren't disclosed.
''They're emerging as a major factor in the direct distribution to the mid-size end user,'' said Elliott L. Schlang, managing director and an analyst at LJR Great Lakes Review. Miami Computer has been buying ''mom and pop'' businesses to carve that niche for itself, he said.
Miami Computer, which markets primarily to government and educational customers, also said it will buy J.O.S. Projection Systems Inc., a Laguna, California based-distributor of audio- visual products. The company said its revenue will exceed $500 million once the three acquisitions are completed.
''We got one of the premier crown jewels remaining in the industry,'' Michael E. Peppel, Miami Computer's president and chief executive, said of the Cleveland-based Dreher acquisition. ''They enhance and complement our offerings in computer supply and technology products, presentations and integration services.''
Miami Computer shares rose 4 9/16 to 24 15/16, or 22 percent.
