One more thing.. I received my Doublecase Zip pac today for my external drive today. I ordered it from Anything Internet and had it shipped UPS ground. I just wanted to let everyone know who has never seen a Doublecase product, that I was satisfied with the quality of the case. It is very well constructed and seems to be very durable.

For all who would like some technical info....
My background is plastics engineering (I'm graduating with my BS in June of 99) and I am presently taking a part design course. Here is my review of the product:

The sides of the case seem to be manufactured using the blow molding process. A few advantages of this process include:
- Lighter weight parts because they are hollow in the center (wall thickness can be varied to get the proper stiffness and rigidity in the part) (This is supported by the illustrations on the BANY web page...
sitra.com
- Blow molding is a much lower pressure process compared to injection molding. This translates too significantly lower tooling costs.
- The hinge that allows the case to open is incorporated into the sidewalls of the product, which means that no additional mechanical fasteners are required for assembly. They simply need to be snapped together.
- The two fasteners that are used to keep the case closed are also snap fit into place onto the top of the case. There are holes, which allow the clips to pivot freely. The bottom side of the case has two square projections incorporated into the design which allows the fasteners to clip onto the bottom side of the case to keep it closed and secure.

Other design features:
- The two fastener clips and the handle are made with the injection molding process. Then they are simply snapped into the sides of the case.
Also, I noticed that the fastener clips are patented. Pat # 5,139,294
Someone may want to see who owns this patent.

- The interior of the case has a medium to high-density polyurethane foam cushion that is glued into place. This type of foam is readily available in sheet stock of various thickness. (Off the shelf items are lower cost than custom products) The bottom side of the case has foam with cutout pockets to hold the external drive in place. The top of the case has a flat egg crate foam design to hold the drive in the vertical direction.

Overall I think that the design is very efficient and that it has many features which help to make it very low cost to manufacture. Also, the material of the case seems to be some type of olefin. (Probably High Density Polyethylene or Polypropylene). Both of these resins are relatively low cost (0.50 to 0.65/lb).

Hope that this helps some of you who have never seen the product to feel more secure in your investment in BANY.
