HELP with PPP

I don't know if anyone reads this thread anymore and I'm sure this question has been asked 1000s of times but I need to get PPP working and I don't have a clue. Yes there is a "how too" document but it's 66 pages long. What is totally incomprehensible to me is that Win98 has a little menu tool with about 4 lines to fill out and I'm up and running with my ISP. All I needed to know was the phone #, my account name, password and whether or not the ISP assigns a dynamic IP address or a fixed one. With Linux I have a 66 page "how too" manual and an equally long FAQ document, all written in the most confusing Geekese possible. Can someone please point me to someplace where this is condensed down into just a page or 2? Any help would earn eternal gratitude.
