Since the cost of options are significant only when the stock price increase substantially over option price, retail investors just do not care as they have also profited. Another reason is they do not understand it the way you and I do. they can move on to another stock if they don't like the one they currently have. That is not the case in the institutional investors. The Council of Institutional Investors (CII) is quite active in scrutinizing irregular activities. I see Reebok on their "1998 focus list" because they repriced options.
