Re Chrysler, you make a good point. Since I own a Nissan pickup, I'm in denial that Nissan could be having troubles <g>.

I guess Japan's government is better positioned than I to determine if companies have great ideas to implement, but lack access to capital to move forward.

My personal take is that if they've screwed up so bad that they can't finance their operating plans, then some other enterprising soul will fill the niche they can't. Government spending should be limited to projects too large for individual companies to manage the risk, ie bringing water to the Sahara or Building an International Space Station.
