okee-boy,

I have to admit to being more of a paddler than a hiker, although I do quite a bit of that too. Unfortunately, I don't have any hiking boot recommendations though. I'm a bit unorthodox. I like really lightweight footwear. I grew up running barefoot on rocky beaches and riding my horse bareback at breakneck speeds through forests... so as you might imagine, I like to travel pretty light. My footwear of choice is an old pair of black suede low-cut boots that are more like moccasins than boots. Really thin soles. Super light and let me feel the ground under my feet. Great to wear when you're in a canoe and want something soft and flexible.

Now...ask me about canoes... ;-}>

This spring I acquired a new canoe... a super lightweight Kevlar-Carbonfiber canoe...a streamlined version based on the Chestnut Prospector. It's a dream... Finished with dark cherry and ash gunwales and carrying yoke. Just dances over the water. I paddle solo most of the time, usually with my big collie dog, Maggie, sitting up in the bow. Just had to put away the paddle for the winter, but am looking forward to spring already. Almost time to break out the Bill Mason paddling videotapes to "imagine" being on the river...and the topographic maps to start planning for a new season of trips.

Well, let's hope we get some paddlers and hikers posting on here. I'm glad you posted a note and got us back in circulation...(-:

BTW, I see you're from Arizona. I was down there last year... great place. Can't wait to get back and do a bit of hiking down there some day. Thinking of a trip down to the area around Tucson for birdwatching. Any recommendations down that way?

Croc...;-}>
