Amir, why not math competitions? I know my son isn't a math genius, he is pretty smart, but not going to set the world on fire in math, anyway. He is 13, taking geometry in 8th grade, but he just brought home the first report card and he only has a C plus. His true love is gaming, he loves to play computer games, video games, card games, role playing games, board games. He says he wishes he could play games for a living. He is taking a technology class that sounds really cool. Right now he is doing something with lasers and speakers, using the laser light to make sound. This is a module, someone else developed it. Earlier this year they did something with robots, using GUIs to program it to go through a sequence of motions, and also something with a one-armed robot that was supposed to simulate a worker but be deployed in a hostile environment. He got an A in that. I am not surprised. Sounds like fun!
He, like my husband and I, is completely lacking in any interest in sports, especially competitive sports. I like to hike, I have a mountain bike, I love to swim, especially in the ocean, but these are all solitary activities, just me testing my own limits. So, there is no point in trying to push him that way. I made it available, he tried soccer, basketball, in the local youth leagues, and he hated it.
