Doug, I don't think dialups at 50K deliver enough to overload your resources. You don't say what your processor is and I don't know what pentiums started out at. I run a cable modem and it DOES bring more than my 233AMD can handle sometimes. In those situations the computer hangs and I pretty much have to wait or shut it down. If you still have control over mouse and keyboard, probably the bits are backing up down the line somewhere--maybe at the brokerage server. I'm not a tech wiz--just my experience.

It's a good idea in my situation to have the page Real Tick starts on be a low data page, so when I log back on it doesn't run right into the same problem.

Also, I am told that level II is the most data-rich of the screens.

If cable or ADSL is available it's a no-brainer if you can afford it. For me, cable only adds $18/mo because I eliminate 1 ISP and a phone line.

If you do get a fast feed, you will probably want a faster computer. I'm hoping to hold on 'til the end of '99 when some real fast machines will be out. Rambus memory. Rambus stock is going to finance that for me... Long time to wait, though. Maybe I'll do a few hundred dollar upgrade with MB/K6/RAM. Maybe get Win98 or NT4 too.
