Alan; I have learned my lessons through experience because I could not believe what was written and would not take learned advice from elders. I used to curse myself because I always had to learn the hard way, some times over and over. The human learning experience is usually difficult because we are by nature forever fighting change. Change is scary and unknown and our routines are well established and familiar, therefore being the path of least resistance.
I was once told a funny antecdote about a yard dog that kept coming through the back screen door and the owner hit him across the nose with a rolled up newspaper and the dog never came back through the door. We are not like that for some reason.
I do encourage Darrin and Sam to continue to express their understanding of God because we must not become close minded or ridgid in our thinking lest it be to our detriment.
If your faith and walk with God is strong, than you should be able to stand, unless they are saying something that makes sense, involves change and is too scary to contemplate.
God encourages me to prove Him and His Word but the final judge must be the Holy Spirit within us as to right or wrong.
Please consider who established many of the rituals that most Christians observe and follow today. Do some research on Pope/Emperor Constantine and the Catholic line of the Innocents and you may come away with a deeper understanding of our history.
Don't think that I am telling you what to do. I am only asking all of us to be more tolerant and open minded.
Change we must, or we would never have moved out of the Dark Ages.
All my best to you in Christ's name,
Santiago
