MileHigh,

Re: <<Excting times to be living in!>>

They sure are!

I got a pleasure out of being able to observe the use of technology in a part of the world much different from the one I am most accustomed to (LA region and West Coast).

While I've been hearing about the adoption of telecommunication devices growing quickly, I didn't the expect the extent to which I saw how ubiquitous they were - in Italy in particular. Everywhere I looked in Italy, someone was either on their Nokia or receiving a call on their Nioka or putting their Nokia away in their pocket after finishing their call. (Nary a MOT in sight. Not boding well for MOT holders!) I don't know what it costs to make a call in Italy, but they don't seem to give it a thought or care. They were always calling each other for no apparent reason most of the time, other than just to chat. They like to do this a LOT.

The French, on the other hand, were much less visibly connected, but connected they were.

As to pc and internet usage. In Italy they advertise getting connected on TV often, I met quite a few connected people, mostly with the youngish staff of the hotels I stayed at. This appears to be the most connected generation there. Same is probably true in France.

Never did see a so called internet cafe in any of the places I travelled thru. I did find one in SoHo last fall but this time nada.

Barry (still in a musing mode)

ps - to answer your question - within the next 3-4 years.
