I am in the same situation as you, and use Dataline for EOD Cdn data (in ASCII format). Some things to consider:
- Customer Service (Can you get a response when problems occur?)
- Quality of data
- Availability (timeliness, what time each day?, emailed to you?)
- Your need to filter out 0 volume days, if the data provider doesn't.
- A way to automate processing of ASCII data. Manually stepping through the steps does work, but it gets tedious very quickly.
- A database for all stocks (vs. MSWIN's internal data format for each stock).
- Monthly cost for data on all stocks.
I suggest you run through your "daily cycle" for a while, and see if you like MSWIN's Downloader, MSWIN files, and loading ASCII data.
I'm not plugging Dataline as a provider. I know there are others, and there are tradeoffs. I'd consider changing vendors when I see a better way to meet my needs.
I've cobbled together (programmed) a "system" that lets me use ASCII, along with StockWiz(DOS) as a database. I export to MSWIN for analysis. My goal was to have the data for TA and scanning. I wish it were QuotesPlus, but until I find better, it gives me very basic functionality, some scanning, with limited requirements for manual fiddling - I have to identify splits, and correct bad data. In total, I track about 4000 Cdn stocks (many of which are either pennies or not liquid). Market changes do occur, and I can see them quickly.
