Hi CB,

Thanks for the references here in Mike's Place. Perhaps there is a typo involved here, or maybe you are quoting me from another thread message.

>>I was just lurking on the George Gilder thread, following a debate about the cost of stringing fiber optic cable to existing structures. Frank A. Coluccio estimated it would cost $500 per structure:<<

...but I'd like to clarify something. In that post I suggested 1,000 to 1,500 per structure, not $500 .

I actually didn't think this out completely at the time, and it should have been an amount per subscriber account. And giving it further thought, in retrospect, I should have also considered that there are multiple dwelling units involved, with multiple accounts per dwelling, etc.

Please keep in mind, however, that I intentionally used low numbers [even at the 1000 and 1500 levels] in order to not appear to be overstating my point, giving the alternative views the benefit of the doubt, with some room to spare.

My statement read:

>>Let's run the numbers, then. At anywhere from 1000 to 1500 dollars per passed structure fully amortized across all outside plant provisions and labor, that would be a dinner bill of approximately 125 Billion to 200 Billion plus the cost of financing. <<
