Hi Carl,

I have not seen or heard any discussion as to why AMAT has dissolved their 50% stake in Applied Komatsu of Japan. Since AK is in the TFT business, wouldn't AMAT want a pice of this going forward? Companies such as Philips and Sony are coming out with televisions which are very thin and which use TFT's. This would, on the surface at least, appear to be a market with enormous potential, and AMAT is leaving the table before the game has begun. Since they have plenty of capital at their disposal, necessity of dollars does not appear to be an issue. Can you shed any light on why they did this? TIA

Regards,

Brian
