In reference to bandwith and capacity, there was interesting story in IBD last week on Digital River. Digital River has a electronic delivery system for downloading software off the Internet. Software companies such as Lotus, Corel, etc., and On-line stores such as Cyberian Outpost actually rely on Digital River for handling their software sales. For instance if you were going to buy a product from Lotus on-line, at some point you actually moved to the Digital river site (without realizing it)for the actual purchase. Digital River actually handles the transaction and either allows you to download the software or mails it to you as applicable. Well the CEO of Digital River said the speed of the Internet was the limiting factor for downloading software. Right now they only download programs of 40mb or smaller. Larger programs such as Games must still be shipped due to the download times that would be involved....Sounds like "push" technology is the answer...I wonder if Wavephore and Digital River have ever talked....Sounds like a perfect match.
