Loop reach...is the distance xDSL can function in copper lines, different versions vary in the length of copper they can function in. The local loop is the distance from the customers premises to the CO (central office). In short...if you are to far away from the CO xDSL won't work for you. For example Aware states it like this:

DSL-Lite technology delivers data transmission speeds of up to 1.5 Mbps downstream and up to 512 kbps upstream at distances of up to 24,000 feet.

SO...Aware's DSL-Lite has a Loop reach of 24,000 feet. If you are further away in the local loop...the loop reach is exceeded and the service either degrades or doesn't work.

You ask:

"ADSL will cover 70 - 90% of world telephone lines".

Do u think this statement is true?


Yeah I agree...more so if the words "telephone lines" were changed to customers. Remember the vast majority of phone lines connections to customers are in the densely populated areas.
