E&S Announces Agreement to OfferAccelGALAXY Graphics On Dell Precision Workstation Line

November 23, 1998 08:19 AM
SALT LAKE CITY--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 23, 1998--Evans & Sutherland Computer Corp. (E&S(R)) ESCC Monday announced that Dell Computer Corp. DELL , the world's leading direct computer systems company, will offer E&S's AccelGALAXY(TM) graphics subsystem on the Dell Precision(TM) WorkStation 410 and 610.

The graphics subsystem is targeted at professional users of demanding Windows NT(R)-based applications for digital content creation, 3D design, and visualization.

Marketed by Dell as the AccelGALAXY 31, the system is available for purchase now on custom-configured Pentium(R) II processor-based Dell Precision 410 and Pentium(R) II Xeon(TM) processor-based Dell Precision 610 workstations.

"Adding Dell Computer as a valued customer unquestionably positions E&S as the leading professional graphics provider in the international workstation marketplace as we enter the new year," said James R. Oyler, president and chief executive officer of Evans & Sutherland. "All but one of the world's leading workstation OEMs now offer their customers graphics based on the power of our REALimage(TM) technology."

The AccelGALAXY supports the full range of professional graphics applications, including mechanical CAD, digital content creation, visualization, animation, entertainment, design engineering, and simulation.

Based on E&S's powerful REALimage 2000 graphics acceleration technology, the AccelGALAXY 31 offered on Dell Precision 410 and 610 workstations provides users with a rich set of features. These include support for dual monitors by a single board, double-buffered resolutions up to 1280 x 1024 (with 1900 x 1200 to be announced soon), a 24-bit Z buffer, 24-bit color, double buffering, full stereo support, and local texture storage for up to 16MB.

Other key features include support for double-buffered overlays, window IDs, texture mapping, stencils, alpha blending, per-pixel depth cueing, and fog.

The REALimage rendering engine processes up to four million triangles and up to four million anti-aliased vectors per second. It renders filtered, MIP-mapped, and textured pixels at rates up to 90 million pixels per second.

Incorporating powerful 2D and 3D rendering engines, cached local texture memory, and on-chip DMA, VGA and setup, the REALimage 2000 architecture supports any combination of robust graphics features (lighting, Z-buffering, alpha blending, window clipping, etc.) with no compromise in performance or image quality.

Ranked 125th among FORTUNE 500(R) companies and 363rd in the FORTUNE Global 500(R), Dell Computer Corp. is the world's leading direct computer systems company, based on revenues of $16.8 billion for the past four quarters. Dell designs, manufactures, and customizes products and services to customer requirements, and offers an extensive selection of software and peripherals.
