NEW YORK, Nov 23 (Reuters) - A wave of mergermania will likely swell U.S. stocks and sail the Dow nearer to record ground at the open on Monday, analysts say.

"Mergermania is back," said Larry Wachtel, senior vice president at Prudential Securities. "It looks like we'll have a strong opening," he added.

Analysts say investors will focus on a major banking deal reported to be in the works for Germany's Deutsche Bank AG to buy Bankers Trust Corp BT .

Wall Street is also looking at talks for America Online Inc. AOL to gobble up fellow Internet pioneer Netscape Communications Corp NSCP . No deal has been reached.

"Its mergermania Monday. It's a continuation of this cycle of getting big and consolidating," said Peter Cardillo, director of research at Westfalia Investments. "Nobody wants to miss that. It's part of the global economic scene. Everybody wants a piece of the action," Cardillo added.
