Here's what I know about what happened at Comdex:

Quanum had four functioning demo units on display at all times, with one functional backup unit for each demo unit. One demo was designed to demonstrate read/write, one demonstrating servo and I'm not sure what the other two demos were doing, maybe one was demonstrating throughput.

None of the demo units failed during the show, so the backup units were not used.

The LTO consortium showed only static, non-functional display units.
