DALLAS and RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC, Nov. 23 /PRNewswire/ - Nortel Networks (NYSE: NT/TSE: NTL) and Efficient Networks, Inc. announced today an agreement to offer interoperable ATM/Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) equipment solutions to DSL data service providers. As part of the agreement, Nortel Networks will offer Efficient Networks' SpeedStream family of DMT-based, DSL customer premises equipment (CPE) as a compatible complement to Nortel Networks' new Universal Edge 9000 multi-service DSL platform. The combination of these products provides service providers with an ATM/DSL end-to-end architecture for supporting seamless connectivity from the subscriber through the central office to the service provider.
Announced in June at Supercomm, the Universal Edge 9000 is Nortel Networks' global high-speed access platform for the 21st century. This integrated, multi-service platform furthers Nortel Networks commitment to provide evolutionary ''plug and play'' products that offer new high-speed data services without wholesale network changes, remain compatible with existing dial-tone networks, and use existing transport infrastructures.
Nortel Networks will distribute Efficient Networks' SpeedStream 3020 and 5010 DMT ADSL modems to service providers requiring standards-based CPE optimized for end-to-end interoperability and simple high-speed network attachment. The SpeedStream DSL products are capable of being converted to the forthcoming G.Lite standard through firmware downloads. Both companies' products utilize Analog Device's Discrete Multi-tone (DMT) ADSL chipset as the core signal processing engine.
