I erased a cdrom device in /dev and then I renoded it by mknod. I was having trouble getting the machine to find the cdrom when mounting. It would skip the attempt to mount until I did it a second time. Anyway now I notice that when I attempt to mount /dev/cdrom it does not see it at all. The link is there for cdrom ---> /dev/cdrom* I made it a symbolic link. Seems to me to get cdrom to point to /dev/blah that is what you want right? Not then other way around?

* now I went and forgot the device name.

But I put in my own major and minor numbers. That could be the flaw. I forgot those too but I think it was 3, 22 or something like that. Perhaps that was the fatal flaw. RH 5.1
