<<you will be taking the bottom of the triangle that forms the roof support and transferring the load to a beam>> Exactly. In this area one very rarely sees roof trusses in existing residential construction, don't know why. They seem to be used exclusively in large commercial structures or in large tracts of new residential homes.
As for the knee braces sounds like an interesting idea. especially since I will need to build a 12"x12"soffet full length on one of the side walls for some recessed lighting. The customer is on vacation in New Zealand [strangly enough, Backup trucks turf] And clearly I will have to pass this by her.She is an artist of some type and this room will be her studio. There will be a couple of windows along that wall so I don't know off hand about the length of said knee braces probably have to be less than three feet to pass by above the windows.
