You are correct that it shouldn't affect the DOJ case, though it may dwarf it in terms of importance.

Then again, this is the same government that is pushing the notion that embarassment is sufficient punishment for perjury if you're an important guy named Bill. Not saying it would be right, but it would be just about in character for them to put the case on the back burner because of this development.
