Thanks for the quick reply, Scrapps. Actually, it gets a bit more complicated than just the 3 miles (15K feet) to the closest remote. From that remote it is 15 miles to the next remote, and then 10 miles to the CO. I suppose my question is more about the logistics of implementation than distances.

Where do the xDSL "magic boxes" go? Once my modem call goes to the remote, it is converted to high frequency packets, right? And it is that HF packet that has the limited distance for loop transmission? If so, then it can't make the trip to the next remote, and even if it could, it still wouldn't make it to the CO.

OTOH, if the packet can travel unlimited distance, most of my questions are resolved. It would only be a question of the twisted copper pair between me and the remote being able to support the HF "pre-packetized" data signal.
