Well of course, given the exposure that so many banks had to derivative positions gone bad.

However, the situation in Brazil is not over yet and we have yet to see a confirmable bottom in commodities that would imply an improved ability to service international debt.

Greenspan applied a band-aid, with the risk of seeing irrational exhuberance go even higher in the equities markets. But a band-aid on a compound fracture (with a little make-up to boot) does not cure the underlying sickness.. ie: deflation and overcapacity.

I'll be watching closely what happens with Hedge fund investors this December. Mass redemptions on their part could stress the entire market all over again.. ala LTCM.
