This type of extreme momentum is very typical right before the bubble bursts.

Anyone remember IOM?

The institutions are basically combining a short squeeze with a trap. They'll squeeze out the last of the short interest, sucker in the momentum pukes, and then dump like there is no tomorrow.

Common pattern. Happens with IPO's all the time. The process is simply a bit elongated with Yahoo due to all the hype -- nontechnologists seem convinced YHOO owns the entire internet or something. It is really scary.
