Bill, one of the local news stations did a piece Sunday night on computer repairs. They made a computer inoperable, and brought it in for repairs. A couple of the things they did was modify the BIOS so the comp wouldn't boot, and cut a line in the cd drive cable. They brought the machines to 3 different national chains for repair: Best Buy, Circuit City, and Comp USA. CC ended up being the cheapest and best. Comp USA was the worse- they replaced the mother boards instead of correcting the BIOS, and replaced the cd drives instead of the cable. Not just one store, but all the stores they brought the machines to. This was in Minneapolis/St. Paul. They were the only retailer to do work or replace parts that wasn't required. When approached, Comp USA had 'no comment'. I found this interesting. I'm checking the news site to see if they put the piece up on the web. Will post a link if they do.
