I propose that AMAT's stock price has no relationship to any company-specific fundamentals. Nor to any equipment-industry fundamentals.

What AMAT's stock does is this:

it serves merely as a proxy for the SOX.

It seems to me that the stocks of smaller semi equip players trade based on equipment industry fundamentals, such as bookings, but I wonder if one can have any success in applying similar fundamental analysis to AMAT's stock price. I think not.

So for anyone wondering whether to buy or sell AMAT, the thing to do is to ignore anything relevant to the company. There's no point in reading company news releases or SEC filings, listening to company conference calls, reading the zillions of posts in the AMAT thread, or any of that. The stock is just the SOX, and nothing else.
