GTECH Announces Contracts in
Arizona and California
WEST GREENWICH, R.I., Nov. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- GTECH (NYSE: GTK - news) today
announced it has signed an agreement in Arizona to provide on-line products and services. The
Company also announced it has been awarded a new contract to provide instant ticket vending
machines in California.
Arizona
GTECH signed a new emergency contract with the Arizona State Lottery to continue operating the
Lottery through June 1999. The Company has been operating the Lottery under an emergency
agreement since May 1996, when the Lottery terminated its agreement with another supplier.
GTECH began providing on-line services and equipment for the State of Arizona in 1984.
As previously announced, Arizona voters defeated a measure that would have abolished the state
Lottery on July 1, 1999. Proceeds from the Arizona Lottery, with sales exceeding $250 million in
fiscal year 1998, support a variety of good causes, including the Arizona Heritage Fund, municipal
and county economic development projects, and road maintenance, among others.
California
The Company also has been selected to provide the California State Lottery instant ticket vending
machines (ITVMs). Upon execution of an agreement, GTECH will supply and service up to 1,500
new ITVMs, which will be leased from On-Point Technology Systems, Inc., (Nasdaq: ONPT -
news) a premier supplier of automated, self-service lottery ticket vending machines. In addition,
GTECH will continue to provide service for the Lottery's existing 3,800 ITVMs. The term of the
agreement will be for three years with the option to extend the agreement for two additional years.
The Lottery has been a GTECH customer since March 1986.
