I think your stuck on Microsoft being a "natural monopoly" in the old paradigm of non-networked PC's. A company doesn't want to spend the money porting and testing their application on multiple platforms.

In the new paradigm they do not have this "natural monopoly", and it is this shift they are trying to prevent. I don't know how anyone who uses the Internet can possibly think this is good.
