Mr. Brian Goodfellow reports
The East Lost Hills Bellevue No. 1 well, operated by Bellevue Resources, a wholly owned subsidiary
of Elk Point Resources of Calgary, blew out and ignited at about 8:30 p.m. PST on Monday. All 17 rig
workers and crew were safely evacuated from the well site which is 45 miles northwest of Bakersfield,
California.
An expert well control team, Boots and Coots from Houston, arrived on the scene at about 3 a.m. PST
this morning. The president of Elk Point Resources, Aidan Walsh, will arrive at the site later today.
Before leaving Calgary Mr. Walsh said, "Our intention is to bring the well under control as quickly as
possible." He commended the rig crew for their quick response to the emergency, "which accounted for
their safe evacuation without injury." Onsite personnel indicate that the fire is contained to the rig site
and does not threaten any residents. An emergency response plan remains in effect.
