Bay Networks, which combined Synoptics and Wellfleet,
had huge problems integrating the Boston 128 and Silicon
Valley cultures, product lines and time zones

I can almost guarantee the culture clash will be worse. This isn't some East coast - West coast merger. This is Silicon Valley meets Canada.

I've been with Nortel for 13 years, and this is a Canadian company. Every single department I've been in fights with Canada. The US groups get all the hand-me down projects. Managers from Canuck get promoted over people from the US. We call them the "Canadian Mafia" up there. Watch out if your group embarrasses a group with a successful product.

Yes, I'm disgruntled. Mainly, because they fired our director and C-level and are breaking up our group. It was the best group I've been in my entire career. We got more done and made some groups up north look like idiots. Our customers refused to call us IS because we actually delivered. Better break up that group. The US groups are getting screwed with this merger.

I'm getting moved to what's called a "resource pool" - very degrading. But, wait, now I hear they are making the pool smaller and changing the name - now I'm in a "resource puddle". I'm am serious folks, this is the Dilbert world where I work in. But it's probably just like any other Fortune 500. Investor take it for what it is worth.
