Donald, re:Does anyone know how long the TULIP and TRADING COMPANY craze lasted.

Tulipmania was said to have peaked from September 1636 to February 1637, with related expansion reaching "fever" in 1640. (In actually, there were multiple tulipmanias spanning decades.) The South Sea [Company] bubble climaxed in 1720, but the nationalistic fundamentals behind South Atlantic trade evolved over a sizeable period of time.

IMO, an important distinction b/t Tulipmania and South Seas is that Tulipmania appears to be less scandalous. That is, the South Seas Company story is a clear case of paper manipulation by John Blunt (et al) -- a Ponzi scheme. If you were to ask me, I'd say that "internet fever" is a hybrid of the above cases.

Regards,
Alan
