Sam/Ignacio, thanks for the compliments. This is just my way of paying my respects to the man who taught me so much.

Re: the movie Contact. The movie is not about Dr. Sagan per se, but is based on his novel of the same name. I read the novel and, of course, thought it was excellent. It is Sagan's fictional account of how an extraterrestrial civilization might try to make contact with other civilizations like our own and the repercussions that such contact might have on us. Like all of Sagan's work, it is impossible to read it without learning a great deal in the process. It has taken over a decade for this story to make it from the novel to the big screen. Such a shame that Dr. Sagan didn't live to see it completed.

Independence Day, a much shallower movie on the same general subject, was a big hit. I just saw it over the holidays and fell asleep halfway through it! From the portion I saw, I think the aliens had only one message for us -- "Die!" Contact has a much more positive view of alien potential. I hope it achieves at least half as much attention as Independence Day.

Re: details on Dr. Sagan's death, I posted the following link in an earlier message, but I'll repeat it here for you. This site has links to other sites with lots of information.
