>>Pacific Sunwear shares fell 28.5 percent Tuesday after investment company BT Alex Brown Inc. downgraded the mall-based retailer's rating to "market perform" from "buy" after recent weak sales.

>>The teen apparel retailer's (PSUN) shares plummeted 6 15/16 to 17 3/8 Tuesday as Joseph P. Grillo and Marcia L. Aaron of BT Alex Brown said recent sales trends have raised concerns for the holiday season.

>>The analysts said they believe November same-store sales to date are below their estimates of a 4-5 percent gain. They have reduced their fourth-quarter same-store sales expectations to 2-3 percent.

>>The Baltimore-based analysts reduced their estimate to $1.11 compared to their previous estimate of $1.13. The company earned 80 cents a share in the year-ago quarter.

>>The analysts were particularly concerned with soft sales of young men's products. Although the analysts noted it is early in the quarter and the retailer could turn things around, they chose to wait "until evidence of a stronger trend appears." Robinson Humphrey downgraded the company's stock on Oct. 23 to "market perform."<<
