WM - Rockwell (now Conexent) are the market leader supplying chips
to home cordless 'phone manufacturers. The technology used is 'spread spectrum'.

How will VLSI displace ROK with a DECT offering?

What an American means when he says 'cordless' is completely different than what anyone outside of North America means. 'Cordless' outside NA means a cheap version of cellular, not a home cordless phone. It works like cellular except:

1) Handoff between cells is limited so you cannot move rapidly, if at all, from cell to cell while on the phone. Thus, it can't be used in a car.

2) Some cordless standards and systems do not allow you to receive calls.

Thus the reputed Rockwell chips in home cordless phones are not competition for DECT or PHS (the two primary cordless systems in the world - the first is European and the second is Japanese).
