<< The Financial Secretary yesterday warned of a worsening economic performance.

Donald Tsang Yam-kuen said third-quarter negative growth might be worse than the previous quarter's minus 5.2 per cent.

The warning came despite the stock market hitting a seven-month high, with the Hang Seng Index adding 3.2 per cent to 10,851.71 points.

Mr Tsang will announce the latest growth figure on Friday.

"The performance this year will be far from ideal when compared with the booming economic situation in the third and fourth quarters last year," he said.

The Government had forecast negative growth of four per cent for the year. ....... >>
