One point I think we miss is that the position that 3Dfx is in. They are viewed as bringing the best to 3D. There venture into the OEM (or lower end) of the market was bound to be met with some disappointment from the game community.

When Banshee came out without 32 color, I thought it could be a disaster, but it doesn't seem to be a significant negative to the targeted consumer. V3 may just as well turn out to be a success.
