FIELD ACTIVITIES / Spire Energy Ltd. Commences Winter Drilling Programme CALGARY, Nov. 24 /CNW/ - Spire Energy Ltd. reports that it has embarked on its winter drilling programme and has spud the first of four wells that will be drilled within the next two weeks. Spire holds an average 96% working interest in these wells. Two wells will be drilled at Benton, one at Oyen and the fourth will be drilled at Abee to evaluate the productive capability of a bypassed zone that has never been production tested. If the Abee well is successful, the Company has identified a number of follow up drilling locations on Spire's existing land base that could potentially open up a new productive horizon for the area. A fifth well is planned at Abee for late December targeting the Wabamun and Glauconitic zones. The cost of drilling these wells will be financed using funds remaining from the flow through equity financing completed at the end of 1997 that are currently held in escrow.
