Spoke to a telecom professor today about the broadband wireless cos and he is just amazed at their opportunity. Four of his observations are:

1. The fact that these cos can pick up their gear and move to another building should they be undercut by RBOC or fiber - i.e. movable investment,

2. The RBOCs SHOULD be looking into these companies for a buyout,

3. RBOCs have to choose between broadband wireless, Xdsl, or fiber if they want to offer high speed data services.

4. Xdsl will most likely lose to cable.

I also found it interesting that one of his desires was to run a small telecom operating company. Wants to reengineer the business to packet based voice - expects that this will be ready for prime time is a year or so. He's a CMU guy and has been in the field for over 20 years - extremely knowledgeable.
